It's interesting that one of the hottest trends in modern firearms are the short pistol gripped shotguns being marketed by the biggest makers. This little shotgun has become prized by collectors for the affect it had on firearms laws and their history. The word "Burglar" simply referred to use against burglars in the home or business. The word "Auto" was short for automobile and the intent was for use in vehicles. Other gauges were made but only in very limited numbers. Its compact design and powerful 20 gauge shotgun round made it extremely effective at close range and where small size was a factor. Its users included police, bank guards, and the general public for home defense. The Auto & Burglar was produced in two models the first 10" was produced between 19 and the improved model 12" came out in 1925. The Ithaca Auto & Burglar is a variant of the well known Flues model side by side shotgun.
